Comcast Response Team Working to Get Services Restored (2024)

Friday, August 30 at 1:00 pm

Our teams have made outstanding progress overnight, restoring nearly 90% of customers impacted by Tuesday’s storms. Our techs have identified the locations where damage to our network has occurred and are working to repair or replace equipment or other network components. It is important to note that although power to your home or business has returned, sometimes commercial power to our network facility has not yet been restored.

We are estimating to have nearly all customers restored by end of day today. There may be some remaining pocket outages affecting individual streets, homes or businesses due to more extensive damage to lines or equipment. In those situations, our teams will continue to work throughout the evening and holiday weekend towards final storm-impacted restoration goal of end of day Saturday, August 31.

Understanding Service Outages After a Storm

For some customers, after power has returned to their home or business, they may experience intermittent service outages. We apologize for the inconvenience, and these instances may be due to the following situations:

  • Temporary Cable:In an effort to restore services as soon as possible after the storm, our crews may install temporary lines. Some of these temporary lines may get damaged or cut during debris clean-up and will need to be replaced later. If that occurs, we may need to suspend service for a short time to make additional repairs.
  • Generators: We use fuel-based generators to temporarily power to our network to home and businesses until commercial power is restored. Dedicated technicians manage and maintain the generators 24/7 to make sure our network receives power to offer our customers a connectivity solution.

The widespread outage is still affecting many, as according to state utility reports, there are more than 320,000 customers currently without power. As power returns to your home or business, you’ll often find that your services are restored as well. In some instances, there may be storm-related damage to our Xfinity network, which may extend service outages for our customers. In addition, there may be delays due to restricted access to network lines and equipment due to debris and dangerous conditions. Working closely with local authorities and utilities to ensure the safety of our technicians, once it is deemed safe to do so, our crews will access, repair and replace damage to our network and equipment.

To help assist with connectivity, our response team has deployed 365 fuel-based generators in less than 24 hours in impacted communities to help power our network as a temporary solution. Additionally, we have activated our severe weather experts from neighboring states to fortify our area technicians. At this time, we have approximately 300 team members out in the affected communities assisting our customers.

How to Report a Downed Line

We urge our customers to please stay away from any downed lines and heed official safety warnings, as these downed lines may be extremely dangerous. To report a downed line, you can chat with a Xfinity Assistant through the Xfinity App or the Xfinity website.

We know the services we provide are important to you. For those impacted by the storm, we ask for your continued patience. Please know that as power is restored to your area, our teams will be working to get you back online.

We hope you and your loved ones are safe. Starting earlier this evening, Michigan was hit by powerful storms knocking out power to about 350,000 homes and businesses across the state.

In advance of the storms, our response teams were monitoring weather closely and fortifying supplies and materials, so that our teams could be deployed as quickly and as safely as possible in event of severe weather.

We are staying in close communication with utility companies and local officials to ensure that once it has been declared safe to do so, our crews of technicians may enter areas of impact to access, repair or replace any damaged network or equipment.
